FINANCING
In the
periods of heavy investment in construction work – and as a
result of its status as Council property - the Centre d’Art
i Natura received the support of the European Union
(Leader,
Interreg and Feder), various departments in the
Generalitat de Catalunya, particularly that of
Governació (Specific
Plans for Works and Services), and, to a lesser extent,
the Diputació de Lleida and,
finally, Farrera Council itself.
As regards the programming and cultural and residential
administration, the CAN has two financing systems: internal
and external. The former is based on income from its own
residential activities, such as payments for board and
lodging; the subscriptions paid by the members of
the Amics del CAN and
the distribution of materials also make a contribution.
The most substantial proportion of the financing derived
from subsidy comes from the public administration,
especially the Departments of Cultura (Culture)
and Treball (Labour)
in the Generalitat. Small amounts are received from
the Institut d’Estudis Ilerdencs
and
the Consell Comarcal del Pallars
Sobirà.
Private bodies such as the Fundació Territori i Paisatge
also
make specific contributions for particular events.
Links with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
and
the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu
–
apart from their participation in the CAN’s amenities –
promote research and study on its premises. The close
collaboration with entities like the Institució de les Lletres
Catalanes and
the Escola Massana also
gives rise to highly specialised activities that confer
great prestige on the CAN.
