WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF THE CENTRE D'ART I NATURA

bastida

El Centre d’Art i Natura de Farrera is a work residence for artists and researchers from all over the world. Situated at an altitude of 1,360 m in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, 250 km from Barcelona and not far from Andorra, the village of Farrera (25 inhabitants) benefits from an exceptional and peaceful setting ideally suited to reflection, inspiration and creative work, whether individual or in a group.

The natural environment of the high mountains – defined by woods with both conifers and deciduous trees, hay fields, steep pastures and craggy rocks – combines with the authenticity of the cultural, architectural and social heritage to create a unique context for field work, research and study.

The Centre’s living quarters are simple and comfortable, with double and single rooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms. The studios enjoy plenty of sunlight, as well as a supply of water and electricity. They are also suitable for holding meetings, seminars and courses (for 10 to 12 people). Dinner every night is the only communal obligation for residents.

Apart from its residential service, the Centre d’Art i Natura (CAN) organises grants and exchanges, courses and seminars, exhibitions of works from its art collection, publications and original editions, as well as performances and presentations.

Farrera’s CAN, which has been in operation since 1996, is a public initiative for local development at the service of creativity and research. The CAN is owned by the local council and administered by a non-profit association, the Friends of the Centre d’Art i Natura de Farrera.

From the outset, the CAN has actively participated in the International Association of Residential Arts Centres and Networks (Res Artis), and it is also a founding member of the Network of Spaces for Art Production in Catalunya.
